An automotive term for On-Board Diagnostic port (version 2) which specifies the connector pinout, signaling protocols, and messaging format. As the name implies, the interface was initially designed to give status reports to a vehicle owner or repair technician information on the various vehicle subsystems. As the OBD port's uses have expanded, for example into vehicle telematics, it has become a security risk with several high-profile hacks.
