Glossary Term:
Programmable Logic Controllers

PLC's are specialized embedded computers that monitor and control physical processes in industrial applications. The PLC architecture relies on input/output pins. In a common configuration, an input pin might receive values from a pressure sensor and a pin configured for output would signal a valve. The PLC Logic monitors the pressure reading and opens the valve as needed.
