Glossary Term:
Mirai

A self-propagating malware that has been used to target IoT devices rather than PC's, enabling massive DDoS attacks when Mirai-infected devices are deployed in botnets. The malware can identify and compromise a wide range of devices including DVR's, Linux servers, routers, IP cameras, and gateways made by Sierra Wireless. After a record-breaking DDoS in September 2016, the Mirai source code was published online that October, resulting in the malware's rapid spread.
