Glossary Term:
Edge Data Center

A regional facility that provides processing and cache functions as close to end users and IoT devices as possible, primarily to reduce latency. Rather than being the "opposite" of the Cloud, edge data centers can be considered an extension of it, performing functions such as pre-processing and/or real-time analytics, optimizing upstream transmissions to data centers in the core (non-edge) layer.
