Glossary Term:
Dead Reckoning

The calculation of current position using velocity from a previously determined position, or fix. Dead reckoning is subject to cumulative errors, but is useful in overcoming the limitations of of GPS/GNSS positioning such as movement into tunnels or urban canyons. Calculations can be based on data received from sources such as gyro sensors, accelerometers, or wheel speed.
