Glossary Term:
Bluetooth Low Energy

A version of the wireless communications standard that optimizes battery life. Also known as Bluetooth 4.0, Bluetooth LE runs constantly, announcing a device's presence to nearby sensors, allowing precise location tracking at greater distances than NFC. Apple's iBeacon and Google's Eddystone are examples of BLE applications. Although BLE shares the Bluetooth name, it is an entirely new specification.
