Glossary Term:
Advance Message Queuing Protocol

An open standard for sending and receiving messages between applications or organizations. With origins in the banking industry, AMQP is focused on queuing and on not losing messages, regardless of reboots or communications failures. Legacy messaging solutions can be retrofitted with AMQP 1.0 (ISO/IEC 19464:2014) to remove proprietary protocols. AMQP is a wire-level protocol specification, in contrast to API-level specifications such as Java Message Service (JMS).
